  • Rangers have launched an astonishing bid to raise £100m to compete with the very top clubs in Europe. Following South African businessman Dave King's £20m cash injection, David Murray will announce further investment, including one from the mystery man who owns Blackpool Tower, and Tiger Wood's financial guru from IMG, Alistair Johnston. Trevor Hemmings owns 50 per cent of Arena Leisure. Tom Hunter is also thought to be considering an investment at Ibrox. Add to their cash a stock market flotation which will raise £10m, £20m from season ticket holders etc, and at the end of the season, a possible tie-up with a media giant for TV and internet rights to games, the cash landslide continues.

  • Rangers are set to play the same side that defeated Celtic at Pittodrie on Saturday as Craig Moore continues to struggle. Tony Vidmar, Sergio Porrini and Dariusz Adamcuk continue to be doubtful, so coach Advocaat will have to consider his striking options instead. Seb Rozental, who missed the Old Firm game at Ibrox, played for the Rangers reserves the other night and hit a double in a 3-1 win, and will travel with the squad, but former Aberdeen striker Billy Dodds is likely to retain his place alongside Rod Wallace. Neil McCann will start on the bench again as Andrei Kanchelskis continues his run in the starting line. He likes playing at Pittodrie and wants to keep his place. Turkish star Tugay will only be considered if Barry Ferguson shows any signs if tiredness from his exertions against France on Wednesday night.

  • Rangers match against Hibs which was scheduled for next weekend has been switched to May 3, a Wednesday evening with a 7.45pm kick-off.

  • The Official Rangers website will broadcast commentary of the Aberdeen v Rangers game live in association with Radio Clyde and BroadcastEUROPE.com. Click here for more details.

  • A South African businessman has ploughed £20million into Rangers to help them become a European force. Financial services millionaire Dave King, a lifelong Gers supporter, will give the money to chairman David Murray. King, who regularly caddies for golfer Gary Player, has been appointed as non-executive director on to the Ibrox board, and a new share issue could see the club raise up to £53.1million. King said,
"I'm delighted to be making this investment. With a capital investment of this kind, we believe Rangers can very quickly move on to a new level. As a fan, I'm delighted to be involved in this way."

Murray believes that the substantial investment will provide a major boost to the club's burgeoning youth policy. He said,
"We are ready to take this club into a new era, and in the next few months the supporters will be pleasantly surprised at what is in store for them There is going to be a change in policy. The debt we carry will be substantially reduced, while we must retain money to invest in new players and also in our new training ground and youth policy."

The Ibrox board have proposed a one for three rights issue of up to 15,380,507 new ordinary shares at 345 pence per share, to raise up to just over £53million in cash before expenses. While King hands over his £20million, Murray's company Murray Sports has committed to take up its rights under the rights issue, through its wholly-owned subsidiary company RFC Investment Holdings, representing an investment of £32.3million.

  • Rangers home game with Dundee has been put back 24 hours to Sunday, April 30, for live SKY TV coverage.

  • Rangers are poised to capture the signature of Fernando Ricksen from AZ Alkmaar for a fee believed to be around £3.75million. The 24-year-old has been at Ibrox today to finalise the deal and become the eighth Dutchman at the club. Right-back Ricksen will join forced again with his former youth coach, Dick Advocaat, and was captain of the Dutch Under-23 side. Ricksen will see out the rest of the season with the Dutch club before returning to Glasgow in July.

Ricksen becomes the second new Gers' face for next year after the club secured the signature of Allan Johnston. Defender Paul Ritchie is also widely tipped to become a Rangers player after Hearts allowed him to leave for Bolton last week until the end of the season.

  • Rangers striker Jonatan Johansson has declared himself fit and ready to face Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Saturday. The Finland international has been out of action since breaking his ankle in the Glasgow giants' previous visit to Pittodrie in the CIS League Cup in December.Johansson played in the Old Firm under-21 clash at Love Street on Monday and, although Ibrox coach Dick Advocaat is unlikely to make too many changes from the side which recorded the comprehensive 4-0 win against Celtic last weekend, the Finn is ready to answer any call to arms. He told Rangers News:
"I resumed training with the first team last week and reckon I'm ready to play again. It would be ironic if I made my comeback at Pittodrie as that's where I picked up the injury which has kept me out for so long. Playing there is always hard but I don't want to set any targets. It might be better to get a few under-21 games under my belt and give myself a much better idea when I might be able to return to action. I do not anticipate any setbacks. Now my target is just to start playing again for Rangers."

Tuesday 28th March 2000
  • Rangers chairman David Murray has hinted at major fresh investment to bolster the Ibrox club in a bid to repeat their domestic success in Europe. The Glasgow club reached the Champions' League this term and now Murray, who has admitted in the past Rangers have carried substantial debt, has indicated new funds are close to being secured. He said:
"I think our supporters expect and trust me to do something which will take us on to the next level, and this cannot be done without extra and substantial funds. I cannot talk about any possible new investment because there are areas of confidentiality involved, but I can say that we are ready to take the club into a new era."

Murray also advised Rangers supporters he will unveil new season ticket prices next week plus detail admission prices for Europe.

  • Rangers and Celtic could still quit Scottish football to play in a new-look Euro-league. The Atlantic League planners, having been told by UEFA that the idea would not work, have come up with another proposal - and this time they could be on to a winner. The Old Firm would be among 10 clubs from four countries in a European League within the next two years if the plan goes ahead. And although our own Premier League has come in for criticism, mainly for its 12-team set-up and subsequent four-times-a-season fixture list, the feeling is that fans wouldn´t mind going through such familiarity with top teams from the continent. Under the new scheme, Holland would be represented by Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven; Portugal by Benfica, Porto and Sporting Lisbon; Belgium by Anderlecht and FC Bruges.

The carrot for clubs would be places in the Champions League - which has brought all this thinking about - for the top five in the European League and games in the UEFA Cup for the other five. The door would also be left open for clubs still playing in domestic competition to enter the European arena. In Scotland´s case, the winners of the SPL would meet the second best Old Firm side in a play-off, with the winners becoming a European League club, the losers staying at home.

The idea, originating in Holland, has come about because of the loss of revenue and status suffered by the countries involved. They have been left trailing while Italy, Germany, England, Spain and France, each with massive TV audiences, continue to pile up cash and threaten to pull even further away from the pack. UEFA are likely to look more favourably on this plan than they did at the Atlantic League proposals.

  • Fernando Ricksen has completed his financial deal with Rangers who will pay his club half his fee with the rest to follow shortly. AZ Alkmaar general manager Jan Kasper claimed he will join the Ibrox club at the end of the season, as we revealed yesterday. He claimed last night:
"I think the deal is done now. I would much rather Fernando was staying in Holland, but he was keen to go and we wanted to help a player who has served us well. I think the choice made by my old friend Dick Advocaat is a very good one. Fernando is a very focused player who never lets his concentration slip for a moment. When he is on the pitch he always works at 200%. He is the kind of player who once he smells the football he forgets everything else and gives his all for the team. I think it is good for Rangers and for Scottish football. His style of play will suit. When he spoke to me about Spanish clubs being interested I told him to go to Glasgow. We have agreed a fair price with Rangers. It is not as high as we wanted but because of the way Fernando has served AZ we agreed to help him by reducing our demands. That was the only reason. What has still to be determined is when we are paid. Rangers want to pay the first instalment on July 1 and the second at the end of the year. We want to bring that second date forward to September 1. If that cannot be agreed we would look for them to pay a slightly higher amount because a lot of money is involved and by waiting too long for the second instalment we could lose out."

Monday 27th March 2000
  • Dutch utility player Fernando Ricksen appears to have finally sealed his protracted switch to Rangers, according to his current club AZ Alkmaar. It is understood Ricksen, who can operate in defence or midfield, will play out the remainder of the season with AZ before travelling to Glasgow. AZ general manager Jan Kaspar said:
"It is now more or less complete, though we have some final discussions still."

  • Andrei Kanchelskis thanked Celtic's Johann Mjallby for claiming Celtic were a cut above Rangers as that motivated the Ibrox aside. Kanchelskis scored a solo second that effectively ended Celtic's hopes of winning the Premier League this season, although even if they had won yesterday, it would still have been an uphill task. The gulf between the sides is now a whopping 15 points with both sides having played 26 games. And Kanchelskis referred to Johann Mjallby's article in a Sunday paper where he claimed Celtic were a better team and would win the game easily. The Ukrainian said:
"Everybody played well for us and this was an excellent result. I don't understand them saying they are better than us. Before the game Celtic were saying they were the better team. But you see the score. Who is now the better team at 4-0 - Celtic? If the gap had been just three points maybe I could have understood."

Kenny Dalglish was unaware of the offending article, and he seemed to have the weight of the world on his shoulders afterwards.

For those that missed Mjallby's quote here it is:

"I know we are a better team than Rangers and we can beat them easily if our attitude is right."

  • Dick Advocaat asked the public and the media to give his side the credit they deserved following their stunning win over Celtic. The Dutch maestro said:
"I will tell you why this is so satisfying. All last week I was reading in the newspapers and I got the feeling that it was Celtic that were 12 points ahead, and not Rangers. Hopefully we will now get the credit that we deserve. We are 15 points ahead of a very good Celtic team so you can say that Rangers have done a great, great job."

But he still refused to concede the title was Ibrox bound, adding:
"We have made a great step towards the title. We are 15 points clear with ten games to go, we are close, but we still have to do it."

In a bit of humour for the press, he said he'd only brought in Michael Mols this season (what about Dodds, Adamczuk and Tugay) but said he's also sold a lot of players, adding:
"When I see what this team are doing, I would take my hat off to them, but I have no hat."

Sunday 26th March 2000
  • Rangers hammered Celtic 4-0 in the final Old Firm game of the season with goals from Jorg Albertz(2), Andrei Kanchelskis and Gio van Bronckhorst. The win takes Rangers fifteen points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Celtic welcomed back Paul Lambert but there was no place for Alan Stubbs because of injury. Rangers were without Craig Moore but Arthur Numan and Billy Dodds both started.Kenny Dalglish had insisted before the game that there was little to choose between the sides but Rangers proved him wrong as early as the fourth minute.A corner from van Bronckhorst found Kanchelskis at the far post and his knock-back was headed home by Jorg Albertz. Moments later there was more trouble for the visitors when defender Mahe had to be carried from the field with a leg injury after a challenge with Rod Wallace. As usual the pace was furious and tackles were flying in, with referee Young struggling to keep control at times. As Rangers continued to dominate, it took a fine Mjallby tackle to keep out Wallace. But five minutes before half time, Rangers doubled their lead when Kanchelskis ran on to a through ball and beat the advancing Gould.

Early in the second half Celtic had penalty claims turned down when Viduka tumbled in the area but the referee booked the striker for diving. At the other end, Rangers were denied a third by the off-side flag. Celtic brought on substitute Mark Burchill for Lambert in the last twenty minutes but it was the home side who confirmed their superiority with two goals in the last six minutes. First Albertz scored from close range, then van Bronckhorst fired home from the edge of the box to complete a comprehensive win and with it surely to lift the Premier League crown for another season.

  • Rangers skipper Lorenzo Amoruso felt that his side's comprehensive 4-0 win against Celtic has all but secured the title. First-half goals from German midfielder Jorg Albertz and Andrei Kanchelskis set the tone for the match which the home side dominated from start to finish. Albertz's second strike and another from Giovanni van Bronckhorst in the final few minutes completed the rout. "It will be very hard for Celtic to catch us now," said Amoruso after leading his side to victory which stretches their lead at the top of the table to a massive 15 points with 10 games left to play.
"When you play against Celtic it is always difficult but all week Celtic have been talking in the newspapers that they were almost the better side even though we were 12 points ahead - but we showed them on the pitch who is the team leading this league. Everybody did a great job today and if we work hard all together as a team, I think this is the spirit for a great team who want to become one of the best teams in Europe."

Two-goal hero Albertz told Sky Sports:
"I think in football anything can happen, but we are 15 points clear now and it's very hard for Celtic to catch us now. I think we played very well today and showed them straight from the start who was going to win the game."

Saturday 25th March 2000
  • Rangers will sign £4 million Fernando Ricksen after the Old Firm crunch on Sunday. They have agreed a compromise deal with AZ Alkmaar, clearing the way for Dick Advocaat to seal the Dutch defender's move. Rangers have been trying to secure the right-sided defender's signature for some time. But AZ kept trying to push up the asking price and were refusing to allow the 23-year-old to move.

Friday 24th March 2000
  • A knee injury has forced Rangers defender Craig Moore out of Sunday's final Old Firm game of the season. Rangers coach Dick Advocaat insists that, although the Ibrox player of the year-elect may need an operation, his injury is not serious. Advocaat said:
"Craig has a problem with his knee and we will take a decision during the week. Maybe he'll be out for two or three weeks."

  • This Sunday's Old Firm game will have a live internet audio broadcast, via the official Rangers website. Click here for more details.

Thursday 23rd March 2000
  • Finnish winger Jonatan Johansson is set to return to action next week as he tries to regain his first-team place. Whether he'll be risked against Celtic in the early kick-off at Ibrox on Sunday is doubtful, however, but he mat be risked against them in the reserve league game the following night. He's been out for some 14 weeks following his injury at Pittodrie in the quarter-final of the League Cup with a broken ankle, but he's back in full training and desperate to play again. He said:
"I restarted full training with the first-team squad on Monday and I really enjoyed it. It was great to be back amongst the boys again and I'll keep working away on my fitness all this week. The recovery from injury has gone well with no ill-effects. I won't be making any targets, but I'd hope to play in the under-21's next week and a few more after that, and if it all goes well, then we'll see."

Wednesday 22nd March 2000
  • Dick Advocaat spied again on Rangers £3m signing target Vratislav Lokvenc in the Czech Republic last night. And after battling it out with Barcelona in a 2-1 Champions League defeat, the Sparta Prague star told the Ibrox boss:
"I want to sign for you!"

Lokvenc has revealed that he wants to come to Scotland, despite interest in him from elsewhere around Europe. Turkish side Fenerbahce sent a delegation to Prague last night to try and persuade the 6ft 5in hit-man to sign for them. And German cracks Borussia Dortmund, Hertha Berlin, and Stuttgart are also very interested in the 27-year-old internationalist who is expected to lead the Czech Republic attack at Euro 2000 this summer. Lokvenc said:
"I would be very interested in coming to Glasgow. Rangers are a very big club and the coach, Dick Advocaat, is a major name in football. I also remember playing twice against Scotland and their style impressed me and would suit my game. I have played with Sparta Prague for six years and I have really enjoyed my time with the club. This year is special because I am having my best season in the league and I should be in the Euro 2000 squad. After that I would like to go to Rangers. I know there has been some interest from Germany, but Britain is where I want to play my football."

Rangers chairman David Murray confirmed that Lokvenc is one of three strikers Advocaat is watching, but stressed that no approach has yet been made to bring the Sparta player to Ibrox. And Lokvenc´s agent, Pavel Paska, admitted today:
"Vratsilav has one year left on his contract with Sparta, so they will have to either offer him a huge new contract or sell him. We know of the interest from Rangers, and he knows all about the club and it´s stature."

  • Rangers defender Sergio Porrini is resigned to missing the rest of the season through an ankle injury. The former Juventus man was injured in a training-ground accident with Jorg Albertz in November but had hoped to make a return before the season's end. Porrini said:
"I fear my season is finished. I need another two or three weeks with my ankle in a cast and after that it will only be light exercise."

Tuesday 21st March 2000
  • Rangers chairman David Murray has admitted French World Cup 'keeper Lionel Charbonnier can leave Ibrox if a suitable offer comes in for him. However, Murray was quick to remind the media that despite a couple of enquiries coming in from several teams in France, he had not yet received one firm offer for the player who is growing increasingly frustrated at playing second fiddle to Stefan Klos.

  • Seb Rozental will remain in Glasgow for the match against Celtic as his international boss hasn't picked him to face Argentina. But nothing untoward should be read into that, so says Chile manager Nelson Acosta, who confirmed he wasn't to travel this weekend for the World Cup qualifier. Acosta reckons the best thing that can happen to his star striker is he keeps playing in Scotland and regains his fitness again. He said:
"Sebastian is still needing sharpness and more regular football at the competitive level he will get in Scotland. We also have Marcelo Salas and Ivan Zamorano both available for the game against Argentina."

Sunday 12th March - Sunday 19th March 2000
  • Rangers restored their 12 point lead at the top of the table with a 6-2 win over Motherwell on Saturday. Rod Wallace scored a hatrick of headers and Albertz scored with a rare right foot shot. The other goals came from the penalty spot with Rozental and Tugay slotting them away.

  • Allan Johnston will be a Rangers player next season. The Sunderland player has signed a pre-contract agreement and will join Rangers on July 1st under the Bosman ruling

  • Rangers will meet Ayr United in the Scottish Cup semi final. The game will be played at Hampden Park on Staurday on the 8th of April.

  • Rangers advance in the Scottish Cup after beating Hearts 4-1 at Ibrox. Goals came from Barry Ferguson, Arthur Numan, Lorenzo Amoruso and Billy Dodds.

Saturday 11th March 2000
  • Captain Lorenzo Amoruso has urged caution to his team-mates -despite the 10-point cushion they currently have at the top of the Scottish Premier League. The Italian skipper believes that a second title in succession under Dick Advocaat should not be taken as a formality. But he insists the players have to remain calm to claim the all-important prize.Amoruso said,
"I feel we are now close to winning the championship. But there are 12 games to go, including one Old Firm match, and we will have to be careful. We have got to go out onto the pitch and finish the job we have started."

Thursday 9th March 2000
  • Rangers coach Dick Advocaat claimed if Scottish football is to survive, it has to have an 18-team Premier League as soon as possible. Considering his own side were instrumental in setting up the current league of 10, about to become 12 next season, he's clearly stepping on a few toes inside Ibrox. But that has never been a problem for the Dutchman, who's only concern seems to get the best out of the game and is genuinely wanting to help Scottish Football. Advocaat said:
"Smaller clubs must realise that playing the Old Firm four times a season can't be good for them. Scottish football can't move on until everyone starts to think collectively for the benefit of the whole game. It's alright moaning about the standard of the game, but unless the smaller teams start helping themselves then no-one else can. The smaller teams have their own interests. They would rather play two home games against Celtic and Rangers and earn cash over a short space of time. It would stop the ridiculous situation of Rangers having to play St Johnstone 10 times in two years."

Chairman David Murray was quick to back DIck Advocaat's demands for an 18-team league despite his SPL initiative. There's no doubt both he and Celtic were keen initially to have an elite league, but he's quickly changed his mind now Advocaat has had something to say about it, and Murray claimed his club would put forward proposals to the SPL to hurry the changes through. But the SFL will try to ensure they have a say in all of this as they can't afford their member clubs to leave in great numbers.

  • Dick Advocaat claimed he would be replacing Jorg Albertz as the penalty-kick taker following his miss against Celtic last night. Whether he was being serious or not remains to be seen, but Albertz seems to have gone off the boil lately, and although he would be disappointed to lose that role, he may become a better player without that responsibility. Advocaat added he would have settled for a draw after the miss as that would have still been a terrific result against a Celtic side that dominated the opening stages, but was happy at the late goal that allowed Rangers to go 12 points ahead with just 12 games remaining. As always, he wouldn't concede the title is won, but his smile suggested something else.

Wednesday 8th March 2000
  • Rangers are 12 points ahead with 12 games remaining - and surely the destination of the Scottish Premier League title is Ibrox following a classic smash and grab from the champions.

The league leaders expertly soaked up all that Celtic could throw at them for 90 minutes - missed a penalty in the process yet still stole the points with a goal from Rod Wallace with four minutes left. The speedy striker took a pass from Giovanni van Bronkhorst in his stride, dribbled around Jonathan Gould to place his shot in the corner to silence Parkhead. A missed penalty with just seven minutes remaining seemed to have deprived Dick Advocaat's side an even bigger lead at the top of the table. Jorg Albertz missed his third successive penalty kick, slamming the drive straight down ther middle after Johan Mjallby brought down Neil McCann - clearly pulling back the former Hearts player after a great pass from van Bronkhorst. It all came from a slack ball from Alan Stubbs that led to a classic counter-attack.

The other hero for Rangers was 'keeper Stefan Klos. A series of saves - from the fifth minte block to deny Mark Viduka to the last minute to the last minute stretch to save a close range Mark Burchill shot that would have beaten an average goalkeeper. This was the 99th SPL derby since the inception of the revised set-up in 1975 - and none other could surely have been played in worse conditions than this. Celtic knew that a draw would be no use to them. They can only rely on Rangers dropping so many points to the other eight SPL clubs, and that they must win the remaining Old Firm game at Ibrox to have an outside chance of catching the champions.

Rangers' captain - the Italian defender Lorenzo Amoruso - missed his kick early on highlighting the treacherous conditions after a pre-match rainstorm. He was led a merry dance by Mark Viduka in the first-half, but a combination of poor finishing, over-elaboration and desperate defending kept the scoresheet blank. Bulgarian Stiljan Petrov danced around Jorg Albertz in the game's first good move in the eighth minute. Viduka found himself totally unmarked just six yards out with the ball at his feet after a great run by Lubomir Moravcik, but somehow he panicked and blasted his shot against the legs of the prostrate Stefan Klos. In the first 20 minutes it was like the Hibernian defeat all over again. Celtic started so purpsoefully going forward. Viduka skinned Amoruso three minutes after his miss but could not find either Moravcik or Mahe in the centre when he reached the byeline. Then it was Jackie McNamara's turn to skip down the right wing and deliver a low cross that missed everybody in the centre.

Tom Boyd took a knock to deny Rod Wallace in Rangers' first real threat after Giovanni van Bronckhorst's fine low cross. Boyd took a accidental whack in the face for his troubles as he bravely cleared on the edge of the six-yard box. In truth that was a rare Rangers attack. Midway through the half Viduka took advantage of Amoruso's hesistation - and was gloriously through on goal. But the Australian - with Marco Negri's SPL record of a goal in 11 successive league games in sight - took too long to compose himself and compatriot Craig Moore managed to get back to tackle Viduka as he prepared to shoot. Too often the final ball for Celtic belied some good approach play, as the Bhoys run of only one win in ten Old Firm derbies now becomes a millstone around their fans' - and players' necks. Rangers attacks had been rare until that late flurry when they realised that they could outpace the sturdy yet slow Celtic defence. Arthur Numan delightful ball to Wallace saw a great saving tackle from Alan Stubbs - a player who always stands up for the count in these fixtures.

Viduka had the ball in the net with a fine finish on the hour. However he used the left arm when rising to beat Amoruso to a long ball forward. As Celtic composed themselves, van Bronckhorst ran at the defence and flashed a cross-shot just wide of Jonathan Gould's left-hand post.

The game was played at an exciting tempo now - and within two minutes Viduka had shot at Klos from an angle and from the resulting corner a strong downward header from Morten Wieghorst again trusted the German goalkeeper. Stubbs got across Amoruso but could not get enough on his connection to head Moravcik's corner home with a quarter of an hour remaining. That was an uncommonly accurate pass from a Celtic player to a like-shirted individual inside the opposition penalty area - and the lack of finishing and of a final ball cost Celtic dear.

  • Rangers skipper Lorenzo Amoruso pleaded with both sets of supporters not to misbehave at Parkhead this evening. Following a demand from Celtic's Johann Mjallby to his team that they should be prepared to break a leg to win tonight. The Rangers' Italian skipper said:
"I hope for the people and the fans who are involved that there are no big problems. It's an important match but it is still a football game.I hope Rangers and Celtic supporters get behind their teams, but football wise and not fighting, The game is important, yes, but not so much that anyone should lose their life."

Tuesday 7th March 2000
  • Barry Ferguson is fit again and ready to face Celtic tomorrow night if selected by Dick Advocaat. Craig Moore is also available after completing his two-match suspension, allowing Vidmar to move to right back and Reyna back into the midfield depending on Advocaat's selection.

Saturday 4th March 2000
  • Dick Advocaat has blasted back at reports that fans' favourite Jorg Albertz was set to quit the club. Newspapers had yesterday morning suggested that the German midfielder's agent had been instructed to find the player a club in England. But Advocaat raged:
"If you fill your newspaper (The Daily Record) with those kind of lies then you can all fill in toilet paper. That's not the way you do your job in my opinion. That paper phones David Murray two or three times a day about news and they didn't yesterday - because if they had they couldn't have written that story. It's all lies."

Friday 3rd March 2000
  • Rangers have denied making an increased offer for young Dutch midfielder Fernando Ricksen. AZ Alkmaar claimed that the Ibrox club had upped a bid to £3-25m from an original offer of £2-5m for the 23-year-old. Rangers manager Dick Advocaat has now been told that the Dutch side will not accept anything less than £5m. But Ibrox chairman David Murray insists that the club have not raised their bid for Ricksen. Murray said,
''Maybe Dick has spoken to them but we've not made any further offer."

  • Rangers have tied up a £1m sponsorship arrangement with three financial service partners. The Scottish Premier League leaders have combined with the Bank of Scotland, Allied Dunbar and CGU Insurance in a scheme which will see profits invested into youth development. Rangers Financial Services will offer supporters the chance to acquire personal loans up to £15,000, mortgages, financial planning services, insurance and investments. Rangers' commercial manager Martin Bain said:
''I am delighted to be able to announce this deal with three of the financial sector's biggest names, following months of extremely positive negotiations. As a club we are constantly looking at ways of improving the range of added value services we offer our supporters and I am confident this deal will provide fans with real benefits.''

  • Rangers chairman David Murray has stated that Jorg Albertz is going nowhere despite reports to the contrary this morning. Top Scottish agent Raymond Sparkes claimed that he had been told by Rangers that he could sell the German midfielder to any English Premiership side. According to morning reports, Albertz's own agent, Norbert Pfliipen had already discussed the deal with chairman David Murray, and apparently Rangers want £3m for the player if he returns to Europe, and considerably more if he's sold down south to a top English side. However, Murray later denied such reports and claimed that Albertz was not about to leave Ibrox.

  • Barry Ferguson will miss Saturday's match against St Johnstone at Ibrox but will be ready to face Celtic. The two games against their Old Firm rivals will surely determine the outcome of this season's Premier League, and Ferguson will have a key role to play. He's suffering a minor knock at the moment and wasn't risked against Dundee in the 7-1 drubbing last week, and he'll receive treatment until the match with Kenny Dalglish's side. He's due to resume light training today, and will be monitored over the next week or so. Lorenzo Amoruso trained today as they gear up for tomorrow's match with St Johnstone and Wednesday's Old Firm clash. Seb Rozental will also start against Saints and Advocaat added:
"Amoruso trained with the squad today and we'll have to wait until tomorrow to see if there's any reaction. Rozental will play but today he was a bit lazy in training and I told him that. But I think he showed his quality last week. I was not totally happy with him about the whole game because I think he can do much better but he had some brilliant moments together with Rod Wallace and that's very encouraging for Rangers. Besides Wallace's scoring quality he is also a very important player for the team. He scores goals, has good technique and can play football as well. He has a good touch and from the beginning of the season he has done a good job. Unfortunately for him he hasn't scored as many goals as he did last season but the goals last Sunday will have given him confidence."

Thursday 2nd March 2000
  • Rangers chief David Murray has revealed has was offered Brazilian star Jardel once again but can't sign him as he can't get a work permit. The giant Brazilian, who scored twice against Barcelona last night, doesn't have a Portuguese passport or has played in enough of his country's recent internationals to qualify under the United Kingdom rules for a work permit. Murray was responding to a poll of Rangers supporters who were asked who the one player in the world they wanted most at Ibrox was, and Jardel came out on top. Of course, when he first arrived in Glasgow in the hope of signing, Walter Smith was prepared to shell out £3 million. Now FC Porto would be looking for £10 million.

  • Midfielder Tugay was at pains again to point out there has never been a fall-out between him and Barry Ferguson despite reports to the contrary. The Turkish star has put it all down to the media interest in his home country, and the rumours had been circulating for a while. He said:
"I want to make it clear there are no problems between me and Barry Ferguson. We are, in fact, good friends. I heard the stories were in the papers in Turkey, and maybe someone over there is getting things mixed up. The interest in me since I joined Rangers has been incredible, so maybe too much is being made of things that are not even there. I have never had an incident with Barry and I'm annoyed at people suggesting anything otherwise. He's a fantastic young player and there is plenty of room for both of us in the Rangers team."

  • Rangers have risen from ninth to seventh in the European rankings just released, a fair position for the club. For the past four months, top Italian side Lazio have remained at the top, and only German side Bayern Munich can get amongst the Italian teams such as Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Roma. But the rankings are important for a number of reasons, none as important as attracting new players who look at these monthly statistics to see where they could be moving to when suggested by their agents and advisors, and the credibility of achieving a top ten place is very important in today's modern game. It also attracts Europe's top commercial agents who are also looking for new ventures and opportunities.

  • Seb Rozental's father has made a desperate plea to Chilean football bosses to allow his son to face Celtic on March 26. The striker scored on his Rangers comeback against Dundee last Sunday and looks certain to be named in Chile's squad for their first World Cup 2002 qualifier against Argentina in March 29, which could rule him out of the Old Firm clash. But Seb's dad Lazaro will plead to Chile boss Nelson Acosta to let his son play against Celtic before flying out to join the Chilean squad. He said:
"Seb is so committed to Rangers and so desperate to repay everyone there that he wants to be in Glasgow on March 26. He also wants to play for his country if selected. I will meet with Acosta and ask him if Sebastian can play against Celtic and then fly to Argentina on the Monday."
